Dr. James Murphy comes from a proud lineage of oral surgeons, inspired by his father and grandfather to pursue a career bridging medicine and dentistry. With a passion for the diverse scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and the unique responsibility of administering anesthesia, Dr. Murphy has dedicated his life to serving patients with exceptional care and precision.
A proud military veteran, Dr. Murphy served in the U.S. Army and Air Force, where he provided care to service members and trained residents at renowned institutions like Walter Reed Naval Military Medical Center. He continues to serve in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, embodying his lifelong commitment to service and teamwork. Known for his humor and sensitivity, he has a special understanding of families with special needs, inspired by his middle son’s autism.
Murphy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2009 after earning his undergraduate degree from Boston College. He completed advanced training through the Air Force’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program in Alaska and his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at David Grant USAF Medical Center in California.
Dr. Murphy is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). He is also a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA) and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. He maintains certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Outside of work, Dr. Murphy enjoys playing tennis, running with his wife, and spending time with his three sons. A decorated veteran and Bronze Star recipient, he is one of six siblings and a proud dog dad to a Bernese mountain dog. His dedication to family, patients, and community defines his compassionate approach to care.
