Richard K. Stern, DDS

Dr. Richard Stern is a board-certified oral surgeon with decades of experience managing oral health issues and treating patients with outstanding care.

Dr. Richard Stern was born and raised in Brooklyn, where his childhood dentist inspired him to pursue dentistry. Eventually, during dental school, he was exposed to the oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty. After seeing the interesting procedures and challenges that oral surgeons encounter, he decided to expand his skillset and complete an oral and maxillofacial residency program.

Dr. Stern has over 25 years of oral and maxillofacial surgery experience, specializing in all areas of oral surgery, including dental implants, wisdom teeth, advanced bone grafting, impacted canines, and more. Dr. Stern is the chairman of the Department of Dentistry at St. Peter’s University Hospital and is on staff at Robert Wood Johnson University. These hospital affiliations help patients in need of hospital or emergency room care.

After his undergraduate studies at Binghamton University, Dr. Stern received a full scholarship to NYU College of Dentistry. During his time at NYU, he started to learn more about the oral surgery specialty. He was drawn to the more advanced treatments surgeons can perform, and he liked the immediacy of the results for his patients. He completed a 4-year residency program at Bellevue Hospital in the NYU Medical Center. Through this program, he gained hands-on surgical experience treating patients for a variety of oral and facial conditions.

After completing his residency training, Dr. Stern knew he wanted to provide the highest qualified treatment to his patients and became board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). To do so, he had to take a comprehensive exam testing his knowledge regarding the complex biological practices of the oral and maxillofacial specialty. Dr. Stern is certified with the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology (NDBA).

Outside of the office, Dr. Stern cherishes his time with his wife and three children. An avid gardener, he is known for his homegrown watermelon and hot peppers. He truly enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s fishing, skiing, hiking, or camping trips with his family and friends. Dr. Stern has two dogs—Zeus, a pit lab mix, and Titan, a Cavapoo mix—who he loves spending time with and bringing on his adventures.
